Sr. Key Account Underwriter - U.S. Buyer Underwriting

Through its US subsidiary, Atradius Trade Credit Insurance Inc, an opportunity exists to join our Risk Services Team as a Sr. Key Account Underwriter based in our Hunt Valley, MD office. Reporting to a Senior Manager, you will be responsible for providing direct underwriting support to several large multi-national customers, while also managing a portfolio of related companies. Working closely with our New Business and Account Management teams, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate complex decisions and efficiently monitor a challenging buyer portfolio. This is a unique opportunity that blends risk portfolio responsibility with direct customer support.

Key attributes of this position include:

• Applying underwriting principles and procedures in line with corporate governance to consider new and existing customer requests for credit insurance coverage
• Demonstrating a clear understanding of the three primary financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement)
• Demonstrating effective written and verbal communication with both internal and external stakeholders
• Demonstrating the ability to multi-task and to remain flexible while supporting numerous multi-national clients and managing portfolio credit risk.
• Consistently offering value to the Account Management teams through underwriting support, detailed risk-specific feedback, direct customer dialogue, etc.
• Serving as a key contributor to the broader underwriting team

Key Deliverables:

• Setting and articulating underwriting strategies for each known buyer group, buyer and sector within the portfolio
• Establishing credit insurance exposure thresholds for aggregate risk appetite and accurately maintaining risk scores/ratings on buyers within delegated authorities
• Monitoring the exposure development of the portfolio and modifying the underwriting risk management approach as necessary based on the continual risk assessment of the market, sector, and buyer in an effort to optimize the claims ratio
• Preparing and presenting formal recommendations to the Credit Committee based on fundamental credit analysis for customer requests exceeding specific risk thresholds
• Analyzing a portfolio of companies for new business consideration within certain established policy thresholds
• Providing timely and clear feedback to external clients and internal Account Managers, explaining decisions and sharing risk analysis
• Participating in weekly credit calls with clients and brokers
• Other ad-hoc project specific deliverables as required

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate recognizes 5+ years of experience within the financial services sector and holds a bachelors degree in finance, accounting, economics or business. Effective written and verbal communication skills are critical for the position. This role entails significant data analysis and requires a detail-oriented approach. Some travel required. Base salary commensurate with experience.
